"Be prepare for chin-ups & 2.4km run, be strong not only physically but also mentally. Always do things fast and be alert for any sudden changes. Last but not least, never stop praying for CAT 1 (lightning strikes)"
enlistment
The day has come, the time is up. Tomorrow 31st of March, I would be off to my BMT in P.Tekong. Fear and anxiety are definitely there in my heart and mind, but it's up to you to take them in your own way. Military training made a boy a real man, from inner thinking to physical strength. Actually I'm not that afraid, there's nothing to be scare. I'm only thinking what it would be like from tomorrow onwards. Just be mentally prepared and take everything one at a time, simply it means take it easy! Have fun while sweating it out! You have to conquer yourself before you go to defeat others. See you my fellow friends and family. I'll be back, 30 days money back guarantee!
1st book out
Today I'm booking in again after a night sleep at home. As it's my first booking out, everything is so exciting. Though things outside Tekong look a bit strange but soon I was back to normal again. Anyway my confinement is just a week because of the public holiday. I was posted to camp 1 in Tekong, the old one and was in Dragons or Delta company platoon 14. Others always said Delta company is a welfare company, and after a week, I think it's quite true. However the worst has yet to come, so saying anything is still early. My buddy is Nicholas and even Sherwin is my my platoon. As for Chwan Chieh is in camp 3 together with Dennis and Xueming in the same company. So wish everyone good luck! It's time to set off for book in now.
1st field camp
After a week of tiredness, I finally book out. The 3 days field camp was quite tired, having to run up and down the botak and cut hill. It's only staying out in the jungle that we all realise how good our bunk is. However the 1st Individual Marksmanship Trainer (IMT) was very shiok and interesting, felt like playing arcade. The place was fully automated and air-conditioned. Indeed.very nice to shoot and to learn the procedures of ranges. The targets were different from waht I used to have in NCC but they were equally fun!
SIT test
This week should be the toughest since the beginning of BMT. With a 3 days SITEST, I almost walked approximately 30km in 2 days, it's so tired that I felt like giving up. Having to survive the days with compact ration given by SAF is really not easy. However by sheer determination and endurance I managed to pass through the SITEST, though with blood and sweat. After we were back camp, it's a day of byonett and SOC, what a day, totally exhuasted. What would be rewarding is to book out on Saturday morning and having a long weekend. After all, it's just 3 weeks more to POP, so guys and fellowmen, just hang on and get through this once and for all. Everyone should be able to do it!
16km route march
First and second range started well though was unble to get marksmanship. It was indeed not easy to hit the target, especially the figure 15 which only the head is visible. Furthermore with the time limit of 4 seconds per target appearance, it was more stressful. Believe or not, it was fun to go to range. Got to enjoy it even had to wake up early in the morning at 5:00 a.m and get to sleep only and around 1:00 a.m. Walking the 16km road march was a bit tough but still going strong. It's only till the 24km which would be worse. Beginning to have POP mood as it's only 3 weeks more to POP.
arduous courses
The last week was quite boring and extremely tiring with 3 SOC (Standard Obstacles Course), BAC (Bayonet Assault Course) , GAC (Grenade Assault Course) and 2 M16S1 ranges. Training was tough but challenging. Not only be strong physically but also mentally.
tough ending
Two weeks more and it's going to be POP. This week was rather tough and compact. Having GST (Group Section Training) field camp, with trench digging as part of the programme. Trench digging was not a easy task, especially under the hot sun of 34~35 degrees Celsius in Tekong. After the field camp, we had BIC (Battle Inoculation Course), which is another very tough and tired course. To go through it, we got to leopard crawl and back crawl for about 100m under wires, and with machine guns firing live rounds above us. There's also explosions around where we were crawling. Again we had SOC (Standard Obstacles Course) straight after BIC. On the last day, we started with the 24km route march, lasted from 7.45am to 7.30pm. Up the hill we climb, into the jungle we bashed. Come the sorching sun in the morning and rain in the early afternoon, it's a really tough march. Through the middle, one recruit got heat stroke and helicopter was sent in. Luckily he was hospitalized for few days only and ok now. Finally we had completed almost all our BMT training, next week would be rehersal for the passing-out-parade. The feeling of POP is too hard to explain. POP would be on 6th June in Nee Soon Camp. I would be displaying Basic PT in the mass PT display item.
P-O-P
Date 6th of June, it's passing-out-parade at Nee Soon Camp. A total of 14 contingents from Nee Soon(BMTC2) and Tekong(BMTC1) are passing out. The weather was hot and humid but our spirits were still high. Everyone was equally excited about this day where we finally completed our 10 weeks of Basic Military Training. The march-in parade was wonderful and solid. We all march pass the guests with pride and passion. It's definitely a great feeling. I performed in the mass PT under the Basic PT section. There were log PT and rifle PT. Others display were bayonet fighting and mock attack. the day would remained as an unforgettable day.
